The second weekend of October, I headed east with Beyond the Boundaries co-founder, Christine Savage, to attend the 2018 Outdoor Blogger Summit (soon-to-be-called Outdoor Media Summit in order to represent the cornucopia of writers, photographers, brands, social media marketers, editors, bloggers, and more that the 2-and-a-half-day event brings together). Our attendance was two-fold: I was joining Aaron Schmidt, photo editor of Canoe & Kayak and SUP magazines to give a presentation on storytelling through photography and Christine and I were stoked to take in presentations from like-minded individuals from various backgrounds, all tied together by a passion for spending time outdoors.
Fall in Roanoke, Virginia, couldn’t be nicer and we spent the duration of the event meeting people from all over North America who loved biking, snowboarding, hiking, fly fishing, running, camping, and more. One of the most compelling presentations we saw was "Social Media Responsibility in an Age of Digital Leave No Trace by Casey Schreiner, editor of Modern Hiker. His thoughts on enjoying the outdoors while protecting them via the way we discuss and share our experiences digitally really had impact. Thank you to the whole OBS crew for their hard work in making the event super rad. Already stoked for OMS 2019.
